weekend in wilderness

This past weekend we went backpacking near Payson. It was a beautiful weekend and even though the temps were in the high 70′s the sun was blazing! I think I may have sweat out my body weight!

We left Friday evening around 7pm and took Molly with us. We were going to originally go with Marco but he had other things that came up. So off we went to car camp the first night in the back of the truck and then start hiking in the morning. We got to the camp and went straight to bed, or at least that’s what I was hoping for. Molly wouldn’t sleep. She whined, walked over us, whined, and would only lie down for a few moments. It was horrible! Let’s just say I wasn’t a “happy camper” with her the next morning after roughly 3 hours of sporadic sleep!

We started on our hike but quickly changed locations once the scenery wasn’t what we were hoping for. We then went on to hike without a trail in another location. We followed the compass and Brady’s wilderness smarts to get us to the creek. It was great. Hard climbing and a little fall on rocks for me but we got there! Nothing more than a few bruises and scrapes for me but I also didn’t put my arms out to soften the blow.

It was the most relaxing trip we’ve taken. We got to our location about 2ish and the rest of the afternoon/evening was for relaxing, hunting crawdads, and reading! It was soooo good! Molly was able to roam free and we would just call her back every now and again. She did such a good job (besides the first night) with us letting her be free. We had a few sprinkles but nothing what we expected. There was a beautiful lighting show behind clouds that I was sure we were going to get a huge storm, but the wind was the only thing that really came around.

One thing I love: my underquilt. It’s the best purchase ever made for backpacking with a hammock. I was so nice and toasty….almost too much!

All in all the weekend was fantastic. Here are a few pics for you to enjoy!

this is where we were before we decided to change route.
i saw this rainbow before we left!

Molly wasn't really helping out with crawdad fishing.

She loves the wilderness.

she was very interested in what Brady was doing.

The result of hard work.

Just relaxing and enjoying the day.

the beauty of what we woke up to from the hammock!

the beautiful meadow we stumbled upon.

happy new year

Yes, I realize that the new year was about 2 weeks ago but hey…I’ve been busy.

I really have no idea where to start. We hiked again around the Four Peaks 2 weeks ago and we had to endure snow. Ugh. That will really make hiking the trail frustrating if we have a lot of it. The picture on the right is a very steep climb we had with snow.

We spent the new year at our dear friends Dave and Noelle Clark. They had a small gathering for the evening and we enjoyed playing Dutch Blitz and lighting small fireworks and sparklers.

The Loft at PV has officially closed. It is a sad day because I had just gotten to know almost all the girls that worked there and we all got along well. I’m going to have to start all over again at Scottsdale Fashion. My closet enjoyed the liquidation for sure…..$800 worth of clothing for $105. Can’t complain…..holding the items were a perfect idea. I think a lot of us held stuff for months. Ha!

We just finished the Bridal Expo for this year as well. It was so much nicer than last year. We took a more casual approach to the event and just focused on those who came to us. We handed out our flier but we didn’t have a raffle and didn’t push people to try it out. It was glorious! We had so many positive remarks and I’m really hoping we get a few good bookings out of this. Next year will be even better! I’m also going to do more networking at the event and checking out all the other vendors. So glad this one is over with.

Speaking of the business, we have been blessed to have Marco help us out while we are hiking. He’s been so great to us and is such a wonderful friend. I sure hope he knows how much we appreciate him. March is filling up nicely and April is getting there. I’m thinking this year may be a great year for us! :)
